Where the server sits in your office

Pick a spot that is dry, cool, ventilated and out of the way. Avoid floors, closets with no airflow and windows with direct sun.

Check these four things before setup

A server is a small computer that stays on.

  • A wall power outlet close by.
  • A network cable to your router or switch.
  • Room for air to move around the box.
  • Only the people you trust can reach it.

If your server is an NVIDIA DGX Spark

Follow NVIDIA’s spacing[2]. The room should stay between 5 and 30 C[3]. Metric first, then a tape measure.

Sides2 cm eachunder 1 in
Rear40 cmabout 16 in
Room temperature5 to 30 C41 to 86 F

Distances from NVIDIA[2], room range from NVIDIA[3]. Inches are rounded.

The DGX Spark is one server option. The one-week install price may not cover hardware, so ask who buys it, us or you.

Consider a UPS

A UPS is a battery box that keeps the server on for a few minutes if the power drops, so it can shut down cleanly. Ask us which size fits. We have no verified price for a UPS, so we give none.

Heat is the common trouble

A small server in a hot closet can slow down or stop. If you can only find a closet, check that the room stays under 30 C and that air can move around the box.

Check these off before setup day

What to do next

Bring a photo of the spot to the first call, and note the outlet and the cable. On day 1 of the one-week install we check your room, power and network. The exact days depend on your office, and your written quote governs.

The one-week install costs $1,500 as of . Requote before use. It may not cover hardware, taxes or any work after the week. Ask for the quote in writing (book page 035).
